Did you know that spike length increases as you drive?
The tires that are used for the Swedish and Norwegian rallies have spikes glued in them, unlike Monte Carlo tires, where they are not.
As you drive and the wheel turns, the inertia of every spike makes it slide a few mm out of the rubber. Apparently, it is designed to do that.
